Luther begins this treatise with the paradoxical statement: “A Christian is a perfectly free lord of all, subject to none. A Christian is a perfectly dutiful servant of all, subject to all.” This statement covers a man’s both inward feeling and also a man’s outward duties. In the first half of his statement he is addressing to a man’s inward nature that every true Christian has. Luther believes that a true Christian is one who has complete faith in Jesus Christ and any man who has such trust would be free from any intern dissatisfaction and would receive salvation without any trouble.
